【摘要】:Thispracticeforthedesignandinstallationofgroundwatermonitoringwellswillpromote(1)efficientandeffectivesitehydrogeologicalcharacterization;(2)durableandreliablewellconstruction;and(3)acquisitionofrepresentativegroundwaterqualitysamples,groundwaterlevels,andhydraulicconductivitytestingdatafrommonitoringwells.Thepracticesestablishedhereinareaffectedbygovernmentalregulationsandbysite-specificgeological,hydrogeological,climatological,topographical,andsubsurfacegeochemicalconditions.Tomeetthesegeoenvironmentalchallenges,thispracticepromotesthedevelopmentofaconceptualhydrogeologicmodelpriortomonitoringwelldesignandinstallation.Aproperlydesignedandinstalledgroundwatermonitoringwellprovidesessentialinformationononeormoreofthefollowingsubjects:Formationgeologicandhydraulicproperties;Potentiometricsurfaceofaparticularhydrologicunit(s);Waterqualitywithrespecttovariousindicatorparameters;andWaterchemistrywithrespecttoacontaminantrelease.1.1Thispracticedescribesamethodologyfordesigningandinstallingconventional(screenedandfilter-packed)groundwatermonitoringwellssuitableforformationsrangingfromunconsolidatedaquifers(i.e.,sandsandgravels)togranularmaterialshavinggrain-sizedistributionswithupto50%passinga200sieveandasmuchas20%clay-sizedmaterial(i.e.,siltyfinesandswithsomeclay).Formationsfinerthanthis(i.e.,silts,clays,siltyclays,clayeysilts)shouldnotbemonitoredusingconventionalmonitoringwells,asrepresentativegroundwatersamples,freeofartifactualturbidity,cannotbeassuredusingcurrentlyavailabletechnology.Alternativemonitoringtechnologies(notdescribedinthispractice)shouldbeusedintheseformations1.2Therecommendedmonitoringwelldesignandinstallationprocedurespresentedinthispracticearebasedontheassumptionthattheobjectivesoftheprogramaretoobtainrepresentativegroundwatersamplesandotherrepresentativegroundwaterdatafromatargetedzoneofinterestinthesubsurfacedefinedbysitecharacterization.1.3Thispractice,incombinationwithproperwelldevelopment(D5521),propergroundwatersamplingprocedures(D4448),andproperwellmaintenanceandrehabilitation(D5978),willpermitacquisitionofgroundwatersamplesfreeofartifactualturbidity,eliminatesiltationofwellsbetweensamplingevents,andpermitacquisitionofaccurategroundwaterlevelsandhydraulicconductivitytestdatafromthezonescreenedbythewell.Forwellsinstalledinfine-grainedformationmaterials(upto50%passinga200sieve),itisgenerallynecessarytouselow-flowpurgingandsamplingtechniques(D6771)incombinationwithproperwelldesigntocollectturbidity-freesamples.1.4Thispracticeappliesprimarilytowelldesignandinstallationmethodsusedindrilledboreholes.OtherStandards,includingGuideD6724andPracticeD6725,coverinstallationofmonitoringwellsusingdirect-pushmethods.1.5Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard,exceptasnotedbelow.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunits,whichareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard......
